How to use Age Calculator
- 1
Enter a date of birth or another starting date.
- 2
Choose the date to calculate up to.
- 3
See the calendar duration and total elapsed days.
This tool uses calendar dates, independent of time zones. For month-end dates, anniversaries are clamped to the last day of shorter months.
When to use this tool
Find the calendar duration between a birth date or starting date and another date. Select Use today for a current end date, or enter a historical date. Calendar months have different lengths, so the years-months-days result cannot be reproduced accurately by dividing a day count by a fixed 30-day month.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
A month-end calculation
- Start with
- Start: January 31, 2024. End: March 1, 2024.
- What to expect
- The result is 0 years, 1 month, and 1 day, with 30 total elapsed days. The month anniversary is clamped to February 29.
Get a better result
- For a deadline or eligibility rule, check the organization’s own date-counting convention.
- The start and end on the same date produce zero elapsed days; the tool does not count both endpoints inclusively.
Common questions
How are leap-day birthdays handled?
When the matching day does not exist in the target month, the anniversary uses that month’s last day. This is a calculation convention, not a legal age determination.
Will time zones change the result?
The calculation uses calendar dates at UTC midnight, not the time of day, so daylight-saving transitions do not add or remove elapsed days.
